The Story of an Intern at SynGro

I am an International Business and Modern Languages student at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. This summer I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to intern as a Digital Marketing Assistant at SynGro. As an international business student I don’t have direct experience with marketing, but knew it was an avenue that I would like to pursue after graduation.  I can still remember my excitement on the day I received the email notifying me that I was the successful candidate, though it was difficult to know what to expect.

SynGro is a relatively small company with fewer than 30 employees. What I didn’t realise at the start was that the smallness of the organisation was truly a blessing. I have been given responsibility that I would never have received from a large organisation, and the range of marketing activities has been extensive, always keeping me busy! Working for a smaller organisation also means I work with all parts of the organisation. This can range from weekly marketing meetings with the CEO Keith, to creating videos for users of SynGro Eye. Not only has my knowledge of marketing increased, but I am now more informed in the technology and software industry.

As a Digital Marketing Assistant I have learnt so many new things. My tasks at SynGro have ranged from organising Webinars to creating Infographics. I now have a much deeper knowledge of creating marketing strategies, from email campaigns to social media and influencer marketing.

My time at Syngro has been very insightful. I have gained skills that will be invaluable to my future within the marketing and business industry and I can’t wait to put these new skills into action. One of the main reasons I have had such a great experience is down to my peers within the organisation. I was made to feel very welcome by everyone and I really feel part of the team. Of course, I cannot finish this blog post without mentioning Mhairi, Marketing Manager here at SynGro. Her continuous support and help has been vital to my progression within the role, and I’m sure I will be using all her tips for years to come! To finish off, I want to thank Keith and all the team here at SynGro for this opportunity. This internship has left me excited for the future, and I wish the company all the success in the future.
